My story

My name is Zoran Radosavljevic and I have been studying Jyotish with my Guru Pt. Sanjay Rath from 1997. Since 2000 I have been teaching Jyotish. This blog aims at providing specific information on rarely discussed Jyotish subjects which I was taught in long informal hours of study under the feet of my Guru Pt. Sanjay Rath. My aim is to offer an insight into these precious secretly guarded pearls of our Parampara (tradition), which are rarely discussed in any jyotish book or other schools of thought, but are taught and learnt only orally from Guru to shishya (student). Therefore, some blogs or articles will be given free of charge, yet the more comprehensive lectures given along with Mp3-s will be given by login after a small donation is put through. With these donations, my aim is to help Gurukula fund for Himalayas retreat. These articles form a small part of what is taught at SIVA Devaguru Brihaspati university here in Serbia, Novi Sad.

I live in Novi Sad Serbia, and teach traditional jyotish within the formal education centre ” SIVA Devaguru Brihaspati” (www.siva-edu.info), the course structured by my Guru Pt. Sanjay Rath, where currently we teach Jyotish for Slavic people. Under Pt. Sanjay Rath active guidence, I conduct  around 60 students where around 40 students are in the 2nd year, and 20 students in the 1st year. This is the only centre in this area which can provide the organized and structured teaching of traditional Jyotish. Some people have tried to spread silly rumours that SIVA does not teach Parampara or Traditional Teachings from Sanjay Rath. Such stories are apsurd and mallicious since SIVA is the only branch of Devaguru Brihaspati Centre in Europe directly conducted by Pt. Sanjay Rath. Please note that we also teach SIVA for english speaking people. For such purposes, under the guidance of my Jyotish Guru I also teach at www.sohamsa.com/dbc  the 1st year of Devaguru brihaspati course in English. Therefore, foreign students (thouse speak english), are also allowed to apply at SIVA, however, being a sister branch, I am going to guide them through curriculum at Devaguru brihaspati course in English, being a teacher overthere as well. Some people will ask why I do not mention SJCentre in here. I have taught for 6 years as SJC Guru, however, today this organization branched a lot and many people today have incorporated their own teachings, so that you may find some information which are quite contrary to what we teach here in SIVA and Devaguru Brihaspati programme.

 I am also available for astrological consultations (check SIVA web site contacts). I have noticed in some of the Serbian and Croation websites and forums that some people who are not my students claim the link to this tradition and state that their direct Guru is Pt. Sanjay Rath. Currently, I am enrolled at Jaimini Schollar course 2 which is conducted by my Jyotish Guru Pt. Sanjay Rath, where chosen students are initiated into the secrets of Jaimini Sutras. The list of qualifed schollars can be seen on the web site of my jyotish guru, and readers are advised to study sutras only under their quidance. I have seen people try to explain or quote sutras on their own without the guidance of a Guru which is apsurd and silly. Even though my jyotish guru has given the most elaborate interpratation of the sutras in his book, I also must say that understanding sutra in “live” teaching is an ocean in comparison to what is written in a book. So, be very careful what you read about the sutras unless a person is quailifed Jaimini Scholar.  I will use this opportunity to announce that Jaimini Scholar Course will be conducted through SIVA university as well.

It is important to note that many web sites in Croatia and some in the former Yugoslavia countries use our materials without permission. The materials which will be published in this websites and SIVA Devaguru Brihaspati are copyrighted by Serbia’s government which is a member of European Geneva commission for protection of copy rights. Thus, within SIVA university the lawyer is hired to purse and press charges against people who violate copy rights without asking for our permission. I must warn these people that the fines are up to 10000 euros and 3 years in a jail. So, be that good astrologers as they claim, they should firstly look at their own charts whether this is going to happen to them. So far I have tolerated small “thefts” of the articles, but in future it will not be so. Anyway, we all teach the laws of karma and should be aware of the consequances of our own deeds. Be that as it may, the knowledge from the head can never be stolen, which was confiremed by high level of ignorance I have seen on these jyotish web sites.

This jyotish parampara is very old. In times, certain Gurus came to revive the knowledge and spread it to a greater number of students. Our records trace Shri Achytananda as one among such figures. The lineage went through to Pt. Jagannath Rath, the paternal grandfather of my jyotish Guru Pt. Sanjay Rath. He was such a saintly personality. He taught Pt. Kasinnath Rath his son who imparted knowledge to Pt. Sanjay Rath. Following the opinion of my Jyotish Guru Pt. Sanjay Rath, I am avoiding to upload the photos of the traditional Gurus. Such souls left this planet with no desire attached to their bodies. My Jyotish Guru accepted a number of students, out of which a few of them are in Europe, and myself only here in the south east Europe, encluding former Yugoslavia, Hungary, etc. Currently, my focus is on teachings in SIVA which will serve as the basis of formal education of Jyotish study in future.  I have to mention one thing. These jyotish articles will be updated from time to time. So, check each article regularly to see for the updates.

Today, there are many schools of Jyotish/Vedic Astrology throught the world and Europe. There are also various paramparas in India. Which one you will follow is your choice. My preference and advice is to always drink water from spring. Nowdays, in the west, so many things are taught in the lines of jyotish so that frankly even famous people in the west have confusion about basic things in jyotisha. However, the large presence of vedic astrology in the west is something which is very encouraging. So your teacher should know to read chart correctly, and teach you the rules which are consistant and which can help you understand teachings of Parashara, Jaimini and other classical texts. These should be at least the criteria of an astrologer you choose to consult with. I have sat with my guru with at least a few hundred of readings, where he demonstrated his ability to read charts extremelly accuratelly, up to a point, with a lot of compassion and understanding, and advised remedial measures which very soon have brought releif and removal of problems. By doing so and revealing knowledge which was kept within tradition for hundreds of years, my jyotish Guru Pt. Sanjay Rath, set up a very high standard of teaching jyotish here in the western world. I continued to follow his steps, which was very difficult, since many people who had established flourishing vedic astrology associations and centres did not normally like it. However, the most important thing in studying jyotish is to follow the steps of your Guru and KEEP THE KNOWLEDGE PURE!

Normally, I have never made comprimse nor I will, so I will continue to fight for keeping the standards of jyotish very high. In my own chart, 9th lord from Rashi chart is in the same sign in Shastiamsa chart, ruled by VIshnu Devata. It is a very difficult task to take three steps in front of Bali in This Kali Yuga to fight for dharma. Incidently, the same planet is involved in Vishnu Yoga in Navamsha chart. Surya as 9th lord is in Budha Navamsa which is placed in 2nd house in Rashi Chart. It is also involved in DharmaKarma Adhipati Yoga and Sarasvati Yoga. So the means are given….
