Code of Astrologer

All ancient texts give a certain code of conduct, appearance, character etc of an astrologer. To be frank, if we tried to fit into Varaha Mihira ethical code, I doubt that very few astrologers would meet the criteria he required for an astrologer. Nowdays, in ongoing trend of Kali Yuga, the more sin is visible in people, without exempting those who practice spiritual paths. Many people speak of moksha, without realizing that prior to moksha a man should be well established in dharma. However, there are some general traits of character astrologer should have and follow:

1.   Astrologer should be a good and kind hearted person. My jyotish Guru used to say that unless a person is good natured how can he practice Jyotisha…

2.Astrologer should be eloquent with clear words, good command of speech, kind and do the charts with uplifting words towards the client

3. He should have a strong ethical standings, respect for parents, elders and teachers, and well developed social code.

4. He should be an intelligent person,  knowledgable in shastras and pay respect daily to his Gurus

5. He should regularly practice his spiritual sadhana

Astrologers who are unkind, cruel, unintelligent, social misfits, who expose their superiority towards the people whose charts are read, use harsh words, read charts treating people as numbers and planets, and have no fiath in Gurus nor in their own words should be strictly avoided.

Going to Daivagya(Astrologer) is a very specific moment in one’s destiny, so please pray to God to send you the right astrologer who can guide you in the moments of darkness.

However, are we not currently 300 yrs [roughly] into the Dwapara Yuga in the ascending half of the Yuga cycle?

    My warmest regards,

    Thankyou Zoran,
Succinct and accurate, your description is inspiring. Just something I felt was always helpful to understand, was the jyotishi’s duty ( dharma ) to give the knowledge if it is needed, whether asked for or not. The purpose of this knowledge may not reveal itself for sometime,if ever. As a client it always strengthened my ability to take a respectful and bigger view of what the Jyotishi was saying.
    With Sincere Wishes
